This course is for students who have demonstrated a strong interest in pursuing a career as a welder. This class will provide students with advanced instruction in Welding Technology including welding safety, oxyacetylene welding/cutting, plasma arc cutting, carbon arc cutting, exothermic cutting, stick welding (SMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), MIG welding (GMAW), and TIG welding (GTAW). Students will acquire improved skills in print reading and other technical information. Students successfully completing Welding Technology II may acquire an entry-level Welder’s Certification from the American Welding Society.
Students that complete this course are eligible to test for American Welding Society certification. This certification may be used to demonstrate competency for new graduation guidelines for the class of 2021 and beyond.

Required Safety Equipment For Welding Technology

Safety Glasses – Must have “Z87” inscribed on them (FFWS - $2)

Welding Gloves – Must be all leather and have a high gauntlet (FFWS - $10)

Welding Jacket – Must have leather sleeves (FFWS - $40)

Welding Hood – I recommend Harbor Freight only for this item. You can expect to pay in the neighborhood of $50. Get one with “Grind Mode”. Fancy hoods can cost hundreds!

Safety Toe Boots – Leather boots are recommended. Available at Walmart, Army Surplus, etc. The toe must be reinforced with steel or a composite material. To be sure you have the right boot look for the following inscriptions on the inside of the tongue: “ANSI Z41” or “62 FR 40141” and/or one of these: “C/75”, “C/50”, “C/30”, and one of these: “I/75”, “I/50”, “I/30”. You can expect to pay around of $40. The price can much higher for higher quality boots.

Cotton Jeans – No shorts or sweats allowed. Also, no holes.

Cotton Shirt – Long or short sleeve. This will be worn under the welding jacket

Cotton Socks – Really. Check that your socks are at least 50% cotton.
