Student has historic moment in Firefighting program

  • Empower
  • Engage

Lauren Clark is the first female FFWS high school student to pass the CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test. The CPAT is a required certification for most area fire departments.)

Lauren finished the test early at 9 minutes 17 seconds out of a total allowed time of 10 minutes 20 seconds.
The Candidate Physical Ability Test is hosted at Denver Fire Department & consists of eight critical physical tasks that simulate actual job duties for fire fighters working on the firegrounds.

Some of these tasks include:

·         Being on the Stairmaster at 1 stair per 1 second while wearing a 75 Lb weighted vest for 3 minutes and 20 seconds.

·         Driving a 10 Lb sledge hammer 10 inches to simulate breaking through a door.

·         Dragging a 185 pound dummy 50 ft

·         Pulling 200 ft of Firehose

The Firefighting students at Washington Square have been hard at work training under Firefighting teachers Joel Sherry & Kyle Naas. This year there was a 70% CPAT pass-rate for Level 2 Firefighter students, this was the highest total ever passed this year, a 20% increase over last year.
