What is Career and Technical Education- CTE ?

CTE prepares students with technical, academic and employability skills for success in the workplace and in further education.  BTEC offers Career and Technical Education programs for students who are seeking technical expertise combined with employability skills and/or certifications. These may be applied while attending a community college, career and technical school, four-year college or university,  entering the military, or for entry-level positions beyond high school.  With the assistance of their counselor and parents, students should try to determine which career areas they would like to pursue. 

How do students enroll for classes at BTEC?

Students sign up for BTEC classes in February and March during the registration process at their home high school. More information is available on our registration page.

How do students get transportation to BTEC?

FREE transportation is provided for students between their home high schools and BTEC. Transportation for internships, volunteer work, or other out-of-school experiences is the responsibility of the student. Student parking is available on a limited basis. See Bus Schedule for routes and times.

What does it cost to attend BTEC?

Career and technical training classes and programs offered at BTEC are FREE to Adams 12 Five Star Schools students. Some classes may require a fee and/or specialized materials and supplies not provided by the school.

How can I arrange a visit/tour of BTEC?

How is credit awarded?

Students attend BTEC as part of their high school day and receive high school credit for their career and technical classes. All BTEC credits meet District 12 graduation requirements.

How many classes can I enroll in at BTEC?

Students must be enrolled in a career and technical class. Beyond that, students may add English, math, science and/or social studies classes as their schedules allow. All BTEC classes meet district graduation requirements.

How long are BTEC classes?

This varies depending on the class and semester. See individual teacher websites for classes you are thinking of taking.

Who can attend BTEC?

Any Adams District Twelve high school student in 10th, 11th or 12th grade. Participating high schools include Horizon, Mountain Range, Legacy, Northglenn, Thornton and Vantage Point Campus, or any District 12 Charter School.

How do I know if BTEC is for me?

BTEC classes are ideal for the student who likes to learn by “doing.” The job-simulation classroom experiences use state of the art equipment to prepare students for either a career upon graduation, OR to provide students a first time experience in a variety of career and technical classes.

What kind of teaching credentials do the BTEC teaching staff have?

BTEC faculty is comprised of certified teachers who are highly trained professionals in their specialized areas. Each teacher has at least five years of actual on-the-job related experience to complement their teaching skills.
