AP Computer Science A is an introductory college-level computer science course. Students cultivate their understanding of coding through analyzing, writing, and testing code as they explore concepts like modularity, variables, and control structures. The course emphasizes object-oriented programming and design using the Java programming language.
Counseling Notes:
1. Prerequisites: Coding I and Coding II; or AP Computer Science Principles; or Instructor approval. Students must also be enrolled in, or have completed, Integrated Math II.
2. Course fee: $99 for AP Examination (subject to annual increase)
3. All students taking AP Computer Science A will be required to attempt the Advanced Placement Examination in order to receive the weighted credit for this course. A score of two or better demonstrates Math competency for new graduation guidelines.
4. There will also be a mandatory guardian/student meeting in April that will cover class expectations. At that time, the guardian and student will sign an AP contract.
5. This course may be taken online through Bollman (Contact Bollman counselors for details).
