Behavioral Health Students Put Prevention Into Perspective

Latest News and Announcements from our school.

According to the latest 2024 Monitoring the Future Survey, underage drinking and binge drinking among American youth have dropped to record lows. Nationwide, over 80% of 8th graders and 68% of 10th graders report they have never consumed alcohol, and ease of access continues to decline.

While these long-term statistics are encouraging, our work isn't done—especially during homecoming season, when high-energy festivities, tailgates, and celebrations increase exposure to risky choices.

To keep the momentum going, our Behavioral Health students got hands-on experience using impairment goggles to see firsthand how alcohol alters depth perception, coordination, and reaction time. Studies show that increasing the perceived risk of heavy drinking is one of the most effective ways to prevent it.

Interactive tools like these bridge the gap between classroom data and real-world choices. By turning prevention into a memorable, peer-driven experience, we are empowering our students to make smart, safe decisions all weekend long.
